Zhaotong City, located in Northeastern Yunnan, at the right bank downstream of Jinsha River, bordering on Sichuan and Guizhou and at the joint part of Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan has been known as “the lock of South Yunnan and the throat of West Shu (nowadays Sichuan)” and the “north gate of Yunnan”. This city has an area of 23,000 km2 and a population of about 5.83 million.
Zhaotong City located in the convergence zone of Kunming, Chengdu, Guiyang and Chongqing and some other central cities has preliminarily formed the vertical traffic network system consisting of “highway, railway, airport, waterway”.
Zhaotong enjoys huge reserves of water energy. The total installed capacity of three huge hydropower stations i.e., Xiluodu, Xiangjiaba, and Baihetan, along downstream Jinsha River exceeds 34 million kW. It has rich mineral resources and is the largest location of lignite in the south of China, as well as one of the five pyrite mining areas in China. Zhaotong City which is rich in biological resources is the largest high-quality apple base in the south of China, the core region of the highest-quality wild rhizoma gastrodiae in China, the geographical indication location of rhizoma gastrodiae as well as the area which is the most suitable for planting potatoes and amorphophallus albus and has the greatest planting areas in China.

Qujing City, a prefecture-level city in Eastern Yunnan, has been known as “the throat of Yunnan”. It is an important commercial city in Yunnan and ranks the second for the comprehensive strength in the province. It is also a regional central city of “Central Yunnan Urban Agglomeration” plan. Qujing features diverse landforms and ethnic customs. Qujing is the origin of the third largest river in China – the Pearl River.
Yuxi is located in the hinterland of central Yunnan, 88km from Kunming, the provincial capital of Yunnan and is the prefecture-level city nearest to Kunming. It covers an area of 15,285 km2, with a population of about 2.36 million and consisting of two districts and seven counties. Yuxi ranks the third in Yunnan in terms of economic aggregate and is praised as “One origin and Four Hometowns”, namely the origin of life, hometown of Nie Er (famous Chinese musician), hometown of Yunyan (a cigarette brand), hometown of festival lantern and plateau watery place.
Location Advantages: Yuxi, a close neighbor to Kunming, is one of core cities in the urban economic circle of Central Yunnan. The Kunming - Bangkok Great International Passage runs through Yunnan from south to north. The east and middle lines of Pan-Asia Railway meet here. Yuxi is an important hub for our country to build the “Belt and Road” and the International Corridor in the southwest, an influential center for the construction of Yunnan facing South Asia and Southeast Asia and an important gateway to implement opening-up strategy. Baoshan City is a key joint and hub on two passages and economic corridors where the first is from Kunming to Ruili and radiates to Kyaukpyu, Myanmar and the second is from Kunming to Tengchong and radiates to Myitkyina, Myanmar and connects South Asia.
Baoshan is of low latitude mountainous subtropical monsoon climate and free from severely chilly winter and intensely hot summer. It enjoys wonderful natural landscapes like Tengchong Thermal Sea and Volcano Park and Gaoligongshan National Nature Reserve and has abundant mineral and hydropower resources and a wide range of biological resources.
Baoshan City is to focus on the development of 9 pillar industries including the biological medicine, light textile, information industry, advanced equipment manufacturing, new materials, processing of agricultural products with plateau characteristics, cultural tourism, business logistics and modern service industry.
Baoshan City, anciently called Yongchang, is a prefecture-level city and located in the southwest of Yunnan Province. It borders on Myanmar, with a boundary line being 167.8 km long. Baoshan governs 1 district, 1 city and 3 counties, i.e., Longyang District, Tengchong City, Shidian County, Longling County and Changning County. There are 13 native minor ethnic groups and about 290,000 overseas Chinese, their relatives and returned overseas Chinese. It is a major hometown of overseas Chinese in Yunnan. In 2016, its GDP reached RMB 61.7 billion, increasing by 11%.
Baoshan is an important courier station of the famous “Southern Silk Road” and also a thoroughfare of the “Stilwell Road” during the World War II, or Yunnan-Myanmar Highway.
Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture
Chuxiong Prefecture is only 1.5h ride from Kunming. It is the core region with the most competitive advantage and development potential in Central Yunnan Urban Agglomeration. The Central Yunnan Urban Agglomeration, consisting of Kunming City, Qujing City, Yuxi City, and Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture, with a planned area of 96,000 km2, plays multiple roles such as a growth area driving the development of Yunnan Province, a gateway urban agglomeration with distinguished characteristics of West China and strong competitiveness, and the key area of the gateway for the opening of China’s Southwest region.

Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture, located in the west of Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, is the main part of the plateau in Central Yunnan. Resource Environment: Abundant mineral resource: 7 major types of mineral resources have already been discovered, including mineral resources of energy, nonferrous metal, ferrous metal, rare and precious metal, rare earth element, non-metallic mine and building material, with the reserves of nonferrous metals storage up to 8.8 million tons. Rich tourism resources: This prefecture is the home to abundant world cultural heritages, including the Hani Terrace, ancient city of Lin’an, purple pottery of Jianshui, Yunnan-Vietnam Railway, and some other beautiful brands. The Hani Long-Street Banquet, called the longest banquet in the world, is recorded in the “Shanghai Great World Guinness Book of Records”. Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture
Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture is located in the southeast of Yunnan Province, borders on Vietnam, with a boundary line of 438km. It is known as the “Yunnan-Guangxi Corridor”. Wenshan Prefecture abounds with the pseudo-ginseng (Tianqi). Both the yield and quality are the best in China. The pseudo-ginseng is called as the “stephania sinica diels” in the Compendium of Materia Medica, so Wenshan is known as the land of pseudo-ginseng.
Location Advantages: Wenshan Prefecture enjoys the convenient traffic and is the east gate of Yunnan towards the coastal developed areas, the important window of Yunnan towards ASEAN and an important node between ASEAN and PPRD region. Resource Environment: Wenshan Prefecture rich in resources is the place of origin of pseudo ginseng, a rare medicinal herb; its national 4A scenic spot – the landscape and idyll of Puzhehei, Qiubei – is rarely seen in the world. The reserves of indium, antimony and stannum in Wenshan rank the first, second and third respectively in China, of which the indium ranks the first in the world. There are 11 ethnic groups in Wenshan, including the Han, Zhuang, Miao, Yi, Yao and Hui. The ethnic customs and cultures are colorful with important ethnic festivals which are the concentrated reflection of ethnic customs and characteristics, including the “Shangsi Festival” of the Zhuang, “Tread Huashan” of the Miao, “Panwang Festival” of the Yao, “Tiaogong Festival” of the Yi and “Torch Festival” of the Bai.

Pu'er City is a green jewel at the southwest border of China, with the national territorial area of 45000 square kilometers. It is the city with the largest area in Yunnan and has won such honorary titles as the “Tea Source of the World”, “Coffee City in China”, “Top 10 Green Cites of China”, “National Garden City” and “National Forest City”. Pu'er is the sole pilot area of green economy in China.
Pu'er City, bordering on Vietnam, Laos and Myanmar, is an important node of the “Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar” and “China-Singapore” economic corridors and an important frontier influencing the international market of Southeast Asia and South Asia.
Pleasant climate: There are no chilly winter and intensely hot summer, with an annual average temperature of 19°C. Biodiversity: The forest coverage rate is about 70% and it is the second largest tropical rainforest in the world. Almost one third of species in China have been preserved here. Abundant resources: In Pu'er, the land area per capita is 27mu, over 2 times more than that of the whole nation; the forest land per capita is 19mu, 9 times more than that of the whole nation. The value of annual forest ecological service function reaches RMB 211 billion and the rubber planting area ranks the third in China. Pu'er is rich in mineral resources, including iron, gold, copper, lead-zinc and molybdenum. Its reserve of hydroenergy is 15 million kW. Colorful cultures: There are 14 minorities living in Pu'er. Each minority has different folk customs and traditional cultures. Pu'er is the birthplace of tea and the source of the Ancient Tea Horse Road.

Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture
Xishuangbanna is located in the northern border of tropics to the south of the Tropic of Cancer. Xishuangbanna with an area of about 19,124 km2 borders on Pu’er City in the northeast and northwest, connects with Laos in the southeast and borders on Myanmar in the southwest, with the boundary line being 966.3km long. There are 13 ethnic groups living in Xishuangbanna, including the Dai, Han, Hani, Yi, Lahu, Blang, Jino, Yao, Miao, Hui, Va, Zhuang and Jingpo.
Location Advantages: There are four national ports, including Xishuangbanna Airport, Jinghong Port, Mohan and Daluo. The three-dimensional traffic network system of water, land and air has been established to connect other regions in China and surrounding countries. Xishuangbanna International Airport has opened 23 domestic routes and the international routes to Laos and Thailand.
Resource Advantages: Xishuangbanna is the area with the best preserved tropical ecosystem in our country and known as the “Kingdom of Plants”, “Kingdom of Animals”, “Biological Gene Pool” and “Emerald in the Crown of the Kingdom of Plants”. Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture
Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture located in the northwest of Yunnan Province has an area of 29,459 km2and a population of about 3.59 million and governs 1 city, 11 counties, one National Economic & Technological Development Zone, one provincial tourism resort and the Development and Management Committee of Haidong. There are 13 ethnic groups living in here. It is the only Bai autonomous prefecture in China, one of the areas early developed in the southwestern border areas of China and the hometown of the world-famous film of “Five Golden Flowers”.
Dali Prefecture is a central city of Western Yunnan, a regional traffic hub and the logistics center of Western Yunnan in the planning and construction of Yunnan Province. Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture, located in the southwest frontier of China and in China - Myanmar border area, is a famous hometown of the peacock. Dehong Prefecture has deeply implemented five strategies of “building prefecture with ecology, booming prefecture with science and education, enriching prefecture with industries, strengthening prefecture with opening up and stabilizing prefecture with harmony”. The prefecture exhibits a sound picture of developing economy, prosperous culture, united ethnic groups, harmonious society and stable border. Located along the upper reaches of Jinsha River, Lijiang City enjoys long history, beautiful landscape and magnificent natural environment, and is home to the descendants of ancient Qiang people and Naxi people. Old Town of Lijiang at the altitude of 2,400m is one of the well-known historical and cultural cities and a key tourist resort in China. Lijiang City covers an area of about 20,600 km2. In 2016, the total output value has reached RMB 31.4 billion, with a year-on-year growth of 9%.
Rich tourism resources: Lijiang City has the world cultural heritage of Old Town of Lijiang, the world natural heritage of Laojun Mountain (the core region of Three Parallel Rivers) and the world memory heritage of Naxi Dongba Literature Manuscripts. Moreover, it has the snow mountain, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, which is the nearest to the equator in the Northern Hemisphere, and also Lugu Lake, honored “Plateau Pearl” and “Mysterious Kingdom of Women”.
Old Town of Lijiang is situated beside water from Heilongtan (Black Dragon Pool) and at the foot of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. The three water systems encircle and run into the ancient city through the Yulong Bridge, creating a picturesque scene of “every house enjoys its own river and willow” like that in the South of the Yangtze River. Old Town of Lijiang is praised as the “oriental Venice town” thanks to such natural scenery. Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture
Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture, located in the northwest of Yunnan and at the middle reach of Nujiang River, has an area of 14,703 km2 and boundary line of about 449km.
Location advantages: Nujiang Airport and Lanping General Airport are under construction and the Baoshan-Liuku Expressway, as well as other high-grade highways, are also under construction. Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture
"Diqing" means "a place of good luck and happiness" in Tibetan language. It is the Shangri-La where people yearn for and also the core region of the world natural heritage "Three Parallel Rivers". Diqing Prefecture is passed through by Lancang River and Jinsha River from north to south and characterized by the special landform of "snow mountain as town, river as pool". It is a resplendent pearl on the plateau of Northwestern Yunnan. It covers a land area of 23,186 km2, with a population of 407,000 where ethnic minorities accounts for 88.7%.
Diqing Prefecture is the strategic passage for entering Tibet from Yunnan. It connects Yunnan, Sichuan and Tibet and has the traffic network with Yunnan-Tibet Highway and Sichuan-Tibet Highway (originally called Kangding-Tibet Highway) as the arteries. Diqing Shangri-La Airport, covering a land area of 225 hectares, is the largest airport in Northwestern Yunnan.
Diqing Prefecture is located at the southeastern end of the “Water Towers of Asia” and passed through by Jinsha River and Lancang River. It has 221 tributaries with the theoretical reserves of water power over 1,650 kW, 15% of that of Yunnan Province. In addition, Diqing Prefecture is located at the core area of the “metallogenic belt of three rivers” and also one of top 10 national enrichment regions of mineral resources.

Lincang City, getting its name due to that it is close to Lancang River, is a treasured place on the southwest border of China to be developed. Lincang has 1 national border economic cooperation zone. It is the hub and key gateway for connecting China and South Asia and Southeast Asia. Products assembled here are exported to other countries via Myanmar. The cost of processing trade enterprises can be substantially reduced through the preferential tariff policies of various countries against Myanmar.
